SWPPP Basics Every Builder Should Get Right

July 21, 2026

Why SWPPP compliance slips

Most violations are not design failures. They are documentation and maintenance failures: missing inspection logs, BMPs that were installed and never repaired, or a plan that no longer matches the site.

The essentials

  1. Register under the Construction General Permit before ground disturbance.
  2. Install and maintain erosion and sediment controls appropriate to the site risk level.
  3. Inspect on the required schedule and before and after qualifying rain events.
  4. Keep records current and on site.

Getting help

CESCO prepares SWPPPs, serves as QSD/QSP, and handles Construction General Permit implementation and inspections.
